A Star Wars Christmas?

Filed under: Random ramblings — denisedayspencer @ 4:01 am

A couple of weeks ago I accompanied one of our middle school boys as he sang in a chapel service. This guy not only sings, he also composes adaptations of songs and plays them on the piano. He told me he was working on a song from Star Wars, and added, “Maybe Mr. Spencer will let me do it for Christmas.”

Excuse me? Star Wars for Christmas? But then I thought, “Well, why not?”

So Star Wars fans, it’s time to step up to the plate. If we wanted to have a Star Wars Christmas, what would some of the favorite songs be? Leave me a comment and we’ll see how creative you are.

  1. […] Denise has a post for you Star Wars fans. She wants your help in a little Christmas Project project. […]

  2. Are you familiar with the disaster know as “The ‘Star Wars’ Holiday Special”? Maybe the tagline of the movie will give you some ideas…

“Luke Skywalker and Han Solo battle evil Imperial forces to help Chewbacca reach his imperiled family on the Wookiee planet – in time for Life Day, their most important day of the year!” (see

It’s evidently a cult classic among StarWars ner..uh…fans.

  4. Alex, it hurt me just to read that description! No, I’d (thankfully) not heard of that.

    Amanda, sure! Why not?

  5. There aren’t really “songs” for Star Wars. It’s mostly powerful operatic music to counterpoint action sequences.

The only one I can think of is “Princess Leia’s theme”, which is nice and slow and melancholy. That’s good for a Christmas mood.

Of course, my all-time favorite Star Wars music would be
    1) The main title
    2) The end title from the first one, when they blow up the death star.

    3) Imperial march. DANG that’s good!

I just don’t see any of these as particularly “Christmassy”.

  6. Well, I was hoping for a bit o’ humor. Something like…

“We Three Storm Troopers” (“We Three Kings”)
“I’ll Be Home to Tatooine for Christmas” (“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”)
“Evil Emperor Palpatine” (“Good King Wenceslas”)
“Dance of the Sugar-Plum Ewok” (“Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy”)

    You get the idea.
